Muhammad Nawaz Magical Record-breaking Spell inspires Quetta’s facile win.

Mohammad Nawaz’s magical record-breaking spell and Shane Watson’s blitzy knock helped Quetta Gladiators thrash Lahore Qalandars by nine wickets in the Pakistan Super League.

Nawaz’s recorded the most economical spell in PSL history, giving away just four runs and taking two wickets in his four overs to bring his side roaring back into the contest after a blistering start by Sunil Narine and Brendon McCullum.Muhammad Nawaz

The Lahore openers had ran riot, smashing the bowlers and helping the team score 60 in the first five overs for two wickets. Nawaz was brought into the attack for the final over of the powerplay and he took little time to make an impact.

He had the rampaging McCullum out off his second ball and struck in the next over to send back Cameron Delport. When Hasan Khan dismissed Umar Akmal soon after, Lahore found themselves struggling at 81/5, although their scoring rate was still a rapid 9+ an over.

Nawaz gave away just one more run in his next two overs. With the runs drying up quickly, Lahore’s batsmen soon threw their wickets away. Jofra Archer picked two more wickets, while Sohail Akthar’s 20-ball 27 helped the team reach a sub-par 119/9 in their 20 overs. Lahore had scored their first 59 runs off just 27 balls, jut their next 60 runs took them 93 balls and cost them seven wickets.

If there were any doubts regarding Quetta chasing down the target, they were put to rest by a blistering knock from Shane Watson. The Australian smacked 66 off just 42 balls, including five fours and as many sixes. He scored more than one-third the runs in an opening stand of 92, before being dismissed by Narine.

Asad Shafiq (38 off 36) and Umar Amin (13 off 7) were able to take the side home with ease in 14 overs.

Brief Scores: Lahore Qalandars 119/9 (Brendon McCullum 30, Sunil Narine 28, Jofra Archer 3-23, Mohammad Nawaz 2-4) beat Lahore Qalandars 120/1 (Shane Watson 66, Asad Shafiq 38*) by nine wickets.
